Reasons To Adopt A Senior Cat

November 1, 2021

November is Adopt A Senior Pet Month! We always love seeing kitties going to great homes. However, cats in their senior years definitely need some extra attention. There are far too many older felines sitting in shelters, hoping someone will take them home and love them. A local Brampton, ON vet lists a few key reasons to adopt a senior cat in this article.

Calmer, Quieter Pet

Kittens are adorable, but they are also tiny, furry forces of mischief and destruction. Senior cats are usually well past that zoomy stage. Fluffy will be more interested in napping than in pouncing on your toes!

Mood Boost

You may find that helping an animal in need is a very enriching and rewarding experience. It’s definitely something you can feel great about. If you’ve been having a hard time over the past few years, as so many people have, you may find that giving a kitty a second chance does wonders for your own state of mind. Helping animals truly does feel wonderful!

No Surprises

When you adopt an older cat, you don’t have to wonder what she will look like when she’s fully grown. You’ll also be able to get a pretty good idea of her personality. That’s important, as it will help you choose the furball that is the best fit for your home and household.

Shorter Commitment

Our feline friends are living longer and longer these days, thanks to both improvements in both veterinary medicine and raised awareness about kitties’ care needs. However, you won’t have as much time with Fluffy as you would with a kitten. That may actually be beneficial for some people.

They’re Adorable

We’re not going to try to convince you that senior cats are cuter than kittens, but they are pretty adorable in their own way. Fluffy is usually just very sweet and charming by the time she reaches her golden years. You may find yourself smiling just seeing your furry pal curled up and snoozing in the sun.

Love

Our feline companions are very loving and affectionate cats. Many older felines really just want love and attention, and may be very cuddly. There’s something truly magical about senior cat purrs!
